Why Are My Kids Discontent?

Are your kids discontent? Do they struggle to be satisfied with what they have?

This is the time of year we often talk about thankfulness. Not that we shouldn’t be thankful the rest of the year, but November is often a time when we focus our efforts on teaching our kids to be thankful for what God has given them.

Well, I’d like to put a little bit of a twist on the conversation about thankfulness. I was recently interviewed on a podcast called You Can Tell the Children, and we took a look at thankfulness from the angle of contentment.

How to Overcome Discontentment

We’ve talked about contentment on this podcast before but I think it’s a great topic to circle back to at least once or twice a year. I know my kids always need a refresher on being content, and I can usually do with the reminder as well.

In the days and weeks leading up to Christmas, it’s easy for our kids to become discontent, adding more and more wishes to their Christmas list.

In this episode of Redeeming the Chaos, I’m actually going to replay an interview for you that was originally aired on the You CAN Tell the Children podcast.  I have a link to the original episode at the bottom of this post.

Before I play the interview, I just want to tell you a little bit about the organization that produces the podcast, You CAN Tell the Children.

Bible Classes During the School Day? What??

The organization is called, Bible 2 School.  Bible2School is a program that provides free elective Bible classes to elementary school children attending public school during the school day. The children walk or are bused to a nearby church or partner location where trained volunteers engage the children in lively worship and Bible stories. Children and volunteers discuss how they can apply the Bible lessons in their lives and pray together.

This program is pretty awesome… kids who attend public school can actually take a bible class during their school day. Over 50% of kids who attend these programs do not attend a church on a regular basis. Some of these kids may be hearing the gospel for the very first time!  The program actually started in my local community (Lancaster, PA), but they are beginning to expand across the nation.  If you are interested in starting a Bible2School program in your local community, you can go to www.Bible2School.com.

You Can Tell the Children

Be sure to check out their podcast as well… just look up You Can Tell the Children in your podcast app, or you can find it HERE.

“Our passion is to equip adults with relevant, fun, age appropriate, and hope-filled ways to share God’s Word in everyday life with children in their circle of influence. Together we will explore why it is so important to be intentional about sharing God’s Word with the next generation of children…in the car, at the dinner table, or on rainy day adventures. They need to hear God’s Word — and we will make sure You CAN Tell The Children.”

Here is my interview with Meredith Steidler on You CAN Tell the Children.
