REDEEMING THE CHAOS

Lancaster PA Child Photographer | These are a few of my favorite… BOOKS!

Just a disclosure…  this post has nothing to do with newborns or photography.  Sorry!   But it has to do with life, and kids and things that I love.  Consider this a little “get-to-know-your-photographer” type of post.  And you just might be inspired to read some good books with your kids!  🙂

I love children’s books.  My mom used to read to my sister and me for hours when we were little, and I believe I inherited my love of reading from her.   My absolute favorite thing to do is to curl up on the sofa with a big stack of books and read to my boys.  (Did I mention I have FOUR?)  My boys LOVE to read with me.

I truly believe you can never have too many books!   In addition to our overflowing “general” collection of children’s books, I especially love to collect seasonal books.  I have five large plastic tubs in our basement labeled Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Christmas.  (Yes, Christmas gets a box all to its own.  Did you see the picture of my pile of 50 Christmas books??)

So, for lack of any REAL snow here in Lancaster, PA, I thought I’d share with you a few of my favorite SNOW books.  (In hopes of maybe getting a blizzard!).   Be sure to add these to your own personal library!

  1.  THE MITTEN  by Alvin Tresselt

There are many different versions of The Mitten.  I’m sure many of you know the story…  a boy loses his mitten and all the woodland animals try to squeeze inside to stay warm.  Here is a fairly old version, but I love the illustrations.

Have you ever wondered what snowmen do while you’re sleeping?   Have a party of course!  I love the illustrations in this series – Snowmen at Christmas, Snowmen at Night, Snowmen at Work, and Snowmen All Year.

Virginia Lee Burton is on of my favorite children’s authors.  You might be more familiar with “Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel.”  My boys love this story about how Katy the snow plow saved the whole town.

4.  SNOW  by Roy McKie and P.D. Eastman

This book was one of my favorites when I was little.  The story and words are very simple and the illustrations are classic.  My kids love it and so do I!  And who doesn’t love Roy Mckie and P.D. Eastman?  (Go Dog Go, Big Dog Little Dog, etc).

5. WINTER IS THE WARMEST SEASON by Lauren Stringer

This is an unlikely story explaining why winter is the WARMEST season!  Warm sweaters, warm cocoa, warm fires, and warm snuggles make me the warmest in winter!

6.  BEAR SNORES ON by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman

Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman team up to create an adorable series of “Bear” stories.  In this book, Bear’s friends have a party in his cave while Bear sleeps soundly.  Bear wakes up in the end and is sad that his missed out!  His friends brew more tea and pop more corn to make sure Bear is included in the fun.
