Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Five Year Bible Plan?

The Five Year Bible Plan is a chronological reading plan designed for teen boys. Your boys will read one chapter of the Bible each day, for five days a week. At this pace, he will read through the entire Bible in about 5 years.

Why five years?

If you start this plan when your son turns 13, or enters 7th grade, he will have read through the entire Bible before graduating from high school. Many Christian adults have never read through the Bible. What a great way to prepare your son to head out into the world.

Why chronological?

The Bible is not merely a collection of individual stories in one volume. The Bible is actually one big story—the story of God’s plan to rescue humanity from sin and restore our relationship with himself. Part of understanding the One Big Story of the Bible is to read it in the order that the events actually happened.

How do I use the journal entries?

This Bible reading plan is unique because it has a place for a short journal entry for each day. After your son reads the chapter for the day, encourage him to write down ONE thing in the journal box. This could be: What is one thing you learned about God today? What is something that surprised you? What were you challenged to do? What do you want to remember? What question do you have about this passage? Write a one sentence summary of what you read today. What was the main topic?

How do I use the Book Backgrounds?

The Book Backgrounds are meant to be read before you begin each book of the Bible. Read about the author, the background, the themes and the application of each book. I recommend also reading the Book Background again after you finish each book of the Bible.

Is it too late for my son to start?

Of course not! It’s never too late to start reading God’s Word.

What if I want to read the Bible in LESS than 5 years?

You can read more than one chapter a day, or read more than 5 days a week.
