Below are pictures and brief descriptions of each of the 8 books included in the giveaway.
1. FRIENDS WITH GOD: DISCOVER HOW TO READ THE BIBLE (ages 6+)
Discover How to Read the Bible by Jeff White teaches kids about the structure, authors, and timeline of the Bible. It discusses interesting facts about the Bible, and main themes of the Bible. The main chunk of content discusses WHY we should read our Bible. Chapter headings include: “Read the Bible to Grow Closer to Jesus,” “Read the Bible to Hear God Speak to You,” “Read the Bible to be Amazed by God,” and more.
Each of these short, 2-3 page chapters focuses on one of the characters in the Bible. Adam speaks in the first person to tell children just how amazing and creative God is, and how God can do amazing things through you! At the end of each chapter, there is a section called “Try It” where children are encouraged to read a scripture passage, then write or draw the answer to an application question.
2. FRIENDS WITH GOD: DISCOVER HOW TO PRAY (ages 6+)
Discover How to Pray, a children’s devotional book by Jeff White, uses the perspective of biblical characters to teach children how to pray. Chapters include topics like when, where, and how to pray. What should you say when you pray? Does God listen to your prayers? Did you know you can pray when you’re angry? You can even ask God to help you pray! In each chapter, a biblical character (Hannah, David, Ezekiel, Solomon, etc.) explains how prayer has impacted their relationship with God. A sample prayer is included at the end of each section, in addition to space for children to draw or write out their own prayer.
3. HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD: 100 INDESCRIBABLE DEVOTIONS ABOUT GOD AND SCIENCE (Ages 6-10)
My boys and I have been reading the first title in this series, Indescribable, by Louie Giglio, and we love it! Each short devotional reading in this series explores an aspect of science or God’s creation. The stories could be divided into topics that include space, earth, animals and people. After exploring and explaining an interesting fact about the world, the author connects the topic to a truth about God. For example… when studying sinkholes and erosion, we learn that God is our solid rock and we can build an immovable foundation on Him!
Each devotional reading includes a scripture verse, a prayer, and a section to learn a little bit more about “How Great!” our God is.
4. CASE FOR CHRIST FOR KIDS (ages 8-12)
Based on his book for adults of a similar title, Case For Christ For Kids by Lee Strobel dives into the theories and conspiracies that surround the death and resurrection of Jesus. Who was Jesus, anyway? Who did he claim to be? Can we trust the stories we’ve read? Were the witnesses reliable? Maybe Jesus didn’t really die. Or maybe his friends stole the body after he was buried.
In kid-friendly language, Strobel examines all the possibilities of what could have actually happened, and concludes, of course, that Jesus really was who he claimed to be and that he actually did come back to life. This book is a great way to introduce your kids to the concept of apologetics, and to help answer some difficult questions they may have about the unbelievable events surrounding Jesus’ death and resurrection.
5. THE JESUS STORYBOOK BIBLE (ages 4-11)
What household wouldn’t be complete without a copy of The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones? This book has been a well-loved treasure in our family… my personal copy is falling apart at the seams! Telling the story of God’s loving plan to rescue his creation, The Jesus Storybook Bible follows the plan of God’s redemption from Genesis to Revelation. But the fantastic thing about this children’s Bible story book is that “every story whispers his name…” that is, the name of Jesus. Each story points back to Jesus, tying all the stories together into one, unforgettable story of God’s love for us.
Told in funny, endearing, child-friendly language, these stories and illustrations will capture your heart and draw you closer to the heart of Jesus.
6. THE BEGINNER’S BIBLE (ages 1-4)
This classic children’s Bible story book is full of updated, colorful illustrations and delightful stories for the very youngest readers. Your child will learn about the main events and characters of the Bible through 90 short stories from both the Old and New Testament.
7. THE ACTION BIBLE (ages 8+)
If you have upper elementary and middle-school children, this children’s Bible story book is an excellent resource for you! In the style of a graphic novel, this story bible takes readers on a fast-paced journey through the events of the Bible. Including brilliant illustrations and 215 “comic book” style narratives, this book will help your child engage with the stories of the Bible in a new and exciting way.
8. NLT INSPIRE BIBLE – JOURNALING & COLORING EDITION (ages MOM+)
Hey Momma! I have something for YOU! Don’t worry, I’ve got ya covered! I absolutely LOVE this journaling / coloring Bible. I was tempted to keep it for myself! But I won’t. I’ll give it to you, I promise. 🙂
This Bible is in the New Living Translation (NLT). I grew up reading the New International Version, and my church uses the English Standard Version (which I really love for in-depth Bible study). But I love the NLT for just plain old Bible reading! Rather than translating the text word-for-word, entire ideas are translated from from the original texts into modern English! This is a great version of the Bible to read aloud as a family.
And how beautiful are these coloring & journal pages? Throughout the entire Bible, there are sections of text that have been illustrated in the margins for you to color and take notes and meditate on the scripture passages. Mommas, if we’re not filled up and overflowing with the Word of God and the Spirit of God, we’ll have nothing left to pour into the hearts of our children! Be sure to take the time to fill up YOUR heart.
